Abstract
Myxoma of the left auricle has been shown to be a surgically correctable lesion. For this reason clinical recognition is now imperative. These tumors arise from the intra-atrial septum in the region of the fossa ovalis and as they increase in size, eventually mechanically obstruct blood flow through the left atrium or mitral valve. The symptoms produced by these, as well as the physical signs, are caused by this mechanical obstruction. These include intermittent palfilation and dyspnea, signs of mitral stenosis, progressive right heart failure, syncopal attacks and amelioration of symptoms with changed body position. Five cases are reported who presented this tumor at autopsy. Their clinical courses are reviewed. Keywords
