Deformation twinning in rhenium single crystals

Abstract
Experimental results are reported on the formation of deformation twins in rhenium single crystals, deformed in tension at room temperature. The twinning shear is large (∼0·6), in agreement with some earlier results for similar twins in zirconium. Low shear twins of the type, which are generally a feature of the deformation characteristics of hexagonal metals, were not observed. A possible reason for the choice of twinning system is proposed.
