ALTERATIONS IN RESPONSE TO SOMATIC PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH ANAESTHESIA XVII: PROPANIDID (FBA.1420)

Abstract
In small subhypnotic doses propanidid, a new eugenol intravenous anaesthetic, does not increase appreciation of somatic pain in a manner similar to thiopentone. A transient analgesic action was demonstrated, but was of too short duration to be any clinical use. During recovery from large doses a prolonged period of increased sensitivity to pain was not found, such as occurs after the barbiturates.
