The Midday School Meal in Relation to Schoolboys' Weekly Dietary

Abstract
The weekly dietary intake of a group of 39 boys, 14-15 yrs. of age, was compared with the National Research Council and League of Nations standards. The intakes of ascorbic acid and Ca were far below either suggested standard, that of vit. A was far below the U. S. A. standard. The vit. B1 and protein intakes were brought to, or close to, standard by the use of national-flour bread. Most of the vit. C, whose level was low, was obtained from potatoes, particularly "chips." The school meal furnished 44% of the first class protein, 68% of the vit. A, 58% of the ascorbic acid, and 42% of the Ca. The general health of the boys was good, 29% had gingivitis and 29% had f[long dash]l-liculosis.
