The Vital Capacity in Pulmonary Emphysema

Abstract

In a period of 5 years, 10 patients with considerable degree of obstructive or bullous emphysema were found to have vital capacities between 131 and 166% of predicted. A high vital capacity does not exclude the presence of advanced pulmonary emphysema. The findings in these 10 patients are summarized, two patients are reported to illustrate these observations.
