Abstract
The two‐path method for flame‐temperature determinations has been extended to discrete radiators observed with instruments of arbitrary resolving power. Representative calculations of radiant intensity have been carried out for low pressure combustion flames in order to ascertain the feasibility of experimental study with standard spectroscopic instruments. It is shown how experimentally determined temperatures and emissivities can be utilized to calculate the concentrations of emitters, provided the emitting species is known and the radiation emitted corresponds to the thermodynamic equilibrium for the local conditions of temperature and pressure.
