The Ageing Process in the Hypophysectomised Rat

Abstract
Hypophysectomy reduces the food intake of the rat to 35% of the control value. Like food restriction, hypophysectomy retards the aging process in collagen fibers and delays the onset of chronic nephrosis (proteinuria) in the rat. However, in contrast to food restriction, hypophysectomy shortens the life duration. The rate of aging and the life duration may be varied independently of each other.
