Interpretation of the One-Stage Method for Determining Prothrombin Time

Abstract
THE clinical usefulness of the one-stage prothrombin-time method has long been recognized and acknowledged, but opinions concerning the interpretation of the results remain divergent. No general agreement has been reached whether the test can specifically determine the prothrombin concentration of the blood. A study was made to obtain additional data that might aid in evaluating the results of this test. The procedures used in this investigation have been described previously.1 Variation of the Prothrombin Time in ManThe one-stage method was carried out on several hundred subjects to find the limits of variation in nonhypoprothrombinemic states.
