Abstract
Thyroparathyroidectomized rats maintained on normal diet supplemented with thyroid extract were found to be more suitable for the assay of PTH than earlier preparations. The animals were most sensitive to PTH 3-5 days after thyroparathyroid-ectomy. For a routine assay, the animals (5/group) were injected subcutaneously with 5, 10 and 20 USP units PTH/100 g of body weight (both standard and unknown). The percentage increase in serum Ca, the absolute increase in serum Ca and the post-injection serum Ca levels are linear with the logarithm of the dose and any 1 of the 3 criteria may be used for the assay. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
