Abstract
The melting curves of the sodium halides have been determined to 40 kbar. The present curves for NaCl and NaF are in agreement with Clark's corrected curves to 17 kbar, but the agreement for the other sodium halides is less good. There are no triple points on the melting curves to 40 kbar and it is concluded that the transitions found previously in NaF and NaCl near ∼20 kbar, if real, are metastable and shear induced. Keywords
