Abstract
Presented word or picture triads to 104 undergraduates for 13 trials in L. R. Peterson and M. J. Peterson's (see record) paradigm, with a different triad on each trial. Control Ss saw 1 stimulus type throughout; for experimental Ss the stimulus type changed after every 4 trials. Release from proactive inhibition occurred, but declined across successive shifts. In final free recall, experimental Ss accurately remembered stimulus presentation type. Memory traces do seem to contain information indicating whether an item was presented as a word or as a picture. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
