Gray-Scale Ultrasonography of the Thyroid

Abstract
Gray-scale ultrasonography of the thyroid was performed in 33 patients, utilizing a commercially available scanning unit and an aqueous gel coupling medium. Solid and cystic lesions could readily be differentiated, but it was impossible to tell benign lesions from malignant tumors. The ultrasound appearance of thyroid cysts, adenoma, goiter and carcinoma is illustrated.
