THE RELATIONSHIPS OF THE DIPLOID PROGENITORS OF HEXAPLOID WHEAT

Abstract
Comparison of the meiotic pairing in hybrids between the three diploid progenitors of T. aestivum (2n = 6x =42) with that in haploids of the hexaploid shows that the haploid pairing in the deficiency of chromosome 5B accords very well with that expected on the basis of the hybrids. Thus the diploidisation of T. aestivum is entirely genetic and structural changes are in no way responsible.
