Time Dependence ofKe30Decays

Abstract
An experiment was performed at the Brookhaven Cosmotron to detect the β decay of the products of the reaction π+pΛ+K0. We have obtained spark-chamber photographs of 116 K0π+e±+ν events, and have determined the proper decay time of each K0. The time distribution should be of the form |1+x|2eλ1t+|1x|2eλ2t4Im(x)sinδte(λ1+λ2)t2, where λ1 and λ2 are the KS and KL decay rates, δ=m(KL)m(KS), and x is the complex ratio of the ΔS=ΔQ amplitude to the ΔS=+ΔQ amplitude. We find Re(x)=0.170.35+0.16, Im(x)=0.0±0.25, a result inconsistent with a "maximal" violation of CP invariance.
