Irradiation of Mouse Skin With Single Doses of Ultraviolet Light2

Abstract
Changes in the ears of albino mice, following single exposures to polychromatic ultraviolet radiation, have been studied with a method that insures uniformity of incident dosage. Gross and histological changes and quantitative evaluation of hyperplasia indicate a pattern of inflammatory lesion followed by healing processes, but with certain special characteristics that may be associated with the restriction of the primary action of the radiation to a very thin layer. Relationships of these studies to the induction of cancer by repeated doses of ultraviolet radiation are discussed.
