Abstract
The spectrum of krypton furnishes a very fine example of the effect of configuration interaction. The levels 3s5 and 4d2, belonging to configurations of the same parity are less than 1 cm1 apart, and the Zeeman patterns of lines arising from them show large perturbations, both as regards positions and relative intensities of the components. A semiempirical theory is discussed which leads to excellent agreement with experiment.
