Abstract
The effect of methylthiouracil on O2 con-sumption of thyroid, liver and kidney was studied. Thyroidec-tomized animals were also investigated. O2 consumption of the thyroid increased rapidly after drug admn. probably due to follicle growth. The livers from thyroidectomized animals treated with methylthiouracil show a lower O2 consumption than do those of the control animals. The O2 consumption of the liver and kidney falls relatively soon after methylthiouracil treatment is begun. The cause of this appears to be a decreased synthesis of thyroid hormone. Further, there is a clear[long dash]at least as far as the liver is concerned[long dash]direct effect of methylthiouracil.
