Abstract
THE introduction by Astwood of new and potent antithyroid substances has permitted a great advance in the treatment of hyperthyroidism and has given a new tool with which to further knowledge of the pathological physiology of diseases of the thyroid gland. This report deals with the clinical application of these drugs, which are capable of reducing to normal the elevated basal metabolic rate of hyperthyroidism resulting from either primary hyperthyroidism or adenomatous goiter.
