THE HEPATIC BLOOD FLOW IN RESTING HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS BEFORE AND AFTER SPLANCHNICECTOMY 1

Abstract
Estimated hepatic blood flow (EHBF) measured by the bromsulfalein clearance method in 41 hypertensive patients was not significantly different and hepaticportal resistance (HPR) was significantly higher than in 21 normotensive persons. Shortly after splanchnicectomy in 13 hypertensive patients EHBF was increased and HPR decreased as compared with preoperative measurements in the same patients. Within 4-10 mos. after splanchnicectomy in 6 hypertensive patients EHBF and HPR returned to their preoperative levels.
