HISTOLOGICAL FIXATIVES WITH METHYL ALCOHOL AS BASE

Abstract
Histological fixatives are suggested with methyl alcohol as base and with different combinations of agents dissolved therein. These fixatives have been shown to cause less shrinkage during the fixation procedure than do the commonly used fixatives such as the Susa and Bouin solutions. Even when investigating embedded and sectioned tissue, the shrinkage was considerably less. The "new" fixatives give very good histological pictures and their possible usefulness is discussed.
