Abstract
A study has been initiated by Valmore C. LaMarche of the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research, University of Arizona, and is funded by the Climate Dynamics Program, U.S. National Science Foundation. The purpose is to reconstruct climate in the Southern Hemisphere based mainly on past fluctuations in the radial growth of trees in temperate latitudes in Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Eouth Africa. Field collections of increment core samples and discs have been made during the last three summers, and are being analysed at the Laboratory to produce tree-ring width index chronologies on which climatic reconstructions are based.
