Noradrenaline and adrenaline in the urine. part II. their excretion in certain normal and pathological conditions

Abstract
Normal mean daily excretion of epinephrine and norepinephrine in the urine in 17 medical students was 81 [mu]g and the concentration 8.7 [mu]g% during daily activity. In 26 patients with hypertension and some other pathological conditions one had a paraganglioma with highly increased excretion of norepinephrine in the urine, an average of 1354 [mu]g/day and the concentration on the average of 80 [mu]g%. In 2 other patients increased excretion was also found which was later normalized. In 23 other patients increased excretion was not found when compared to the values of normal individuals. In patients receiving infusions of norepinephrine in surgical shock a few per cent of the amount of norepinephrine infused was found in urine during 3 days after the infusion.
