Abstract
An isothermal gas chromatographic method for estimating oxygen, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide in the toil atmosphere is described. A single sample is injected simultaneously into two carrier gas streams using a 12-port sampling valve. Nitrous oxide concentrations between 0.1–600 vpm are measured using an ECD at 350°C, while oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide concentrations greater than 900 vpm are measured using a katharometer. A single analysis takes 3 min. A modification to the method is described to allow the measurement of nitrous oxide emanating from the soil surface.
