Isolation and structure confirmation of norprodigiosin from a Serratia marcescens mutant

Abstract

Norprodigiosin has at last been isolated pure and crystalline from the OF mutant of Serratia marcescens by t.1.c. The structure previously proposed is confirmed by u.v., i.r., p.m.r. and m.s. except that the preferred tautomer in solution is the keto form instead of the enol. Methylation of norprodigiosin to give prodigiosin has been further examined.
