An alternate to hot film flow sensors

Abstract
A sensing element different than the usual hot film is used with a conventional constant‐temperature anemometer. The sensing element is flat and quite thin, so it can be coated with a protective film which permits it to be used in liquids which would normally react with a hot wire. The probe is very much cheaper and easier to construct than a hot film probe, yet sensitivity is similar. In addition this probe is considerably more rugged than the usual hot film.Velocity measurements using a typical probe in water are given.
