Abstract
Summary These brief data from patient studies seemingly suggest that the hypothetical facilitatory circuit when stimulated increases alertness, activates the chemistry, speeds motor activity, and is associated with recordable physiological activity in this particular region. Alteration in psychological activity occurring during psychiatric interview was accompanied by change in the recordings through the hypothetical facilitatory region. Schizophrenic patients displaying altered contact with reality demonstrated marked physiological abnormalities in the septal or facilitatory region. Stimulation caudal to the region of the anterior commissure seems to produce less in the way of this activity and more of a diffuse, downward discharge without marked change in the level of thought.
