Abstract
Aerosol inhalational therapy for respir. disease is a logical method of giving penicillin. The drug was found to have the proper particle size and physical stability to be used therap. with a glass nebulizer operated by compressed air. The conc. employed was 5000 Oxford units per ml., using an [image]/50 phosphate buffer at pH of 7. The following exptl. conclusions as to chem. stability and fate of the aerosol were made: penicillin is not chemically altered by the air flow; it is recovered in phosphate buffer with no marked loss in activity; it penetrates into the lungs; and it diffuses into the blood stream, and is recovered within 12 hrs. in the human urine. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
