Pancreatic Metastasis of Renal Cell Carcinoma Treated by Total Pancreatectomy

Abstract
Metastases from clear-cell carcinoma of the kidney may occur anywhere in the body many years following removal of the primary tumor. The case of a 66-year-old patient is presented who was found to have the typical features of a periampullar carcinoma. This was treated by total pancreatectomy and found to be a metastatic nodule of a clear-cell carcinoma of the kidney, the patient having undergone right nephrectomy for this lesion 13 years earlier. Four cases of pancreatic metastases from a renal cell carcinoma have been found in the literature, but this seems to be the first described case in which the metastases was specifically in the periampullar region.
