Changes in Δ5-3β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Activity in the Ovaries of Maturing Rats

Abstract
Δ5-3β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity has been determined both biochemically and histochemically in the ovaries of rats between 22 and 98 days of age. By both criteria, activity was low at the time of the initial ovulation (5 weeks). It subsequently increased and reached a peak at about 9–10 weeks. This peak activity was significantly above the normal adult level.
