Chromatography and Hormonal Activities of Dog Hypothalamus

Abstract
Extracts of hypothalamus of dogs sacrificed in the laboratory with Nembutal were chromatographed on carboxymethylcellulose. The following substances were tentatively identified in the effluents based on elution volumes and biological activities: oxytocin, β- and αMSH, arginine vasopressin, CRF, an αMSH-like or ACTHlike peptide and ACTH. In the canine hypothalamus, β-MSH and αMSH are present in much the same ratio in contrast to the porcine tissue.
