Abstract
From the results of micro-kjeldahl and Van Slyke analyses of liquid cultures and a cell-free extract, the bulk of the ammonia production of C. renale was attributed to urease. An arginase and some deaminases and uricase were also detected. Bovine urine supports cultures for only a limited period. C. ovis and C. pyogenes have rather similar activity but C. equi lacks urease and arginase and tends to form ammonia from glutamine.
