Abstract
Tumor patients did not produce ACTH in increased amounts unless they were under stress. Only 4 of 50 patients whose blood ACTH level was examined showed a transitory increased hormone level. Parallel tests carried out on the tree frog, Hyla arborea and on hypophysectomized Rana ridibunda showed that the latter gave non-specific reactions and was therefore unreliable in the ACTH chromatophore test. Keywords
