INHIBITION OF FERTILITY IN MICE BY STEROID IMPLANTS

Abstract
Inhibition of fertility in female mice by steroid implants was studied. 19-Norprogesterone, 10% and 20% pellets, and testosterone, 15% and 45% pellets, were effective fertility inhibitors in female mice. Two important antifertility steroids, chlormadinone and 17[alpha]-acetoxypregn-4,6-diene-3,20-dione were only moderately effective. The present data on a relatively limited number of compounds indicate that the anti-fertility activity of progestational agents in normal female mice is a parameter independent of the basic progestationa! activity, anti-ovulatory activity and anti-estrogenic activity.
