The $d^{3}$ and $d^{4}$ Configurations of Vanadium

The term values of the

d^{3}

configuration of V iii are calculated using the experimentally observed energies of the

d^{4}

configuration of V ii. An iterative type calculation is then made for the term values of

d^{4}

in terms of both the experimental energies of

d^{3}

and the calculated values of the still unidentified terms of

d^{3}

. Each of these calculations leads to an appreciable improvement of the agreement between calculated and observed energies.
