CLEARANCES OF SOME PROTEINS BY THE DOG KIDNEY

Abstract
Using immunochemical methods to determine protein concn., the authors studied the clearances of 5 proteins of a range of molecular sizes. The clearance of lysozyme, the smallest molecule studied, was the greatest; conalbumin (m.w. 87,000) did not appear in the urine. The dependence of the clearance on molecular size and shape was, however, somewhat obscured because of its variation with serum protein concn., a phenomenon which may be due to tubular reabsorption of protein and to complex formation with the dog serum proteins.
