Abstract
Growth of the yeast and mycelial phases was found to occur only in the presence of oxygen. The yeast phase of strain 6617 gave the maximum rate of growth obtained in a medium containing glucose, cysteine, aspartic acid, and glutamic acid. In addition, CO2, oleic acid, and apparently -SH groups are required for growth. The requirement for cysteine by this strain was not satified by methionine, or glutathione. Starch and albumin were required as non-toxic sources of the required fatty acid.
