Neutron-Pickup Reactions onMg26

Abstract
The single-neutron pickup from Mg26 has been studied with both the (d, t) and the (He3, α) reaction. Absolute and differential cross sections were measured at forward angles with the 21.5-MeV deuteron beam and the 33.0-MeV He3 beam of the Argonne 60 in. cyclotron. Spectroscopic factors from the two different reactions were generally found to be in very good agreement for the transitions to the low excited states. The experimental results are compared with predictions of the Nilsson model. It is found that band mixing due to the Coriolis force can explain the rather large absolute strength of the ground-state transition and the absence of strong transitions to two rotational bands based on Nilsson orbits No. 6 and 7.
