Note on the manometric determination of succinic and α-ketoglutaric acids

Abstract
Succinic dehydrogenase is inhibited by phospho-18-tungstate and phospho-24-tungstate, presumably because these reagents oxidize the SH groups of the enzyme. Glutamic acid, while stable in the presence of KMnO4 in pure soln., is oxidized by this reagent to succinic acid in the presence of certain de-proteinized tissue extracts. The above reactions may cause errors in the manometric detn. of succinate and alpha-keto-glutarate. Procedures are described which avoid such errors.
