Risk Factors for Urinary Tract Infections in Postmenopausal Women

Abstract
More than 8 million women in the United States seek medical attention for urinary tract infections (UTI) each year.1 The annual incidence among women older than 50 years is 9% and these infections account for substantial morbidity.2,3 Risk factors for UTI have been well characterized among young healthy women and among older, debilitated women living in institutional settings.4-6 However, the risk factors for healthy community-dwelling postmenopausal women have not been well described.7
