Abstract
Based on careful case studies, the author contends that the anemia accompanying sickle cell formation is frequently not primary, therefore careful search should be made in order to locate the actual cause. The danger from "sickling" is more from a thrombosis due to impaction of the agglutinated cells than it is to the anemia. "Sickle cell disease," not "sickle cell anemia" is the proper designation of the condition. Keywords
