Abstract
The extinction factor of polarizing microscopes at 1.25 numerical aperture is improved from 600 to 13,000 by the newly described polarization rectifier. This, for the first time, permits high resolution polarization microscopy of complex objects with exceedingly weak birefringence such as the organelles in living cells. Keywords
