Abstract
The enzymic synthesis of ophthalmic acid from L-glutamic acid, DL-[alpha]-amino-n-butyric acid and glycine has been carried out on a preparative scale. Batches of about 400 ml of reaction mixture yield about 200 mg of ophthalmic acid. The product has been isolated by ion-exchange chromatography and purified by recrystal-lization. The enzymic synthesis is stereospecific and this enables racemic [alpha] -aminobutyric acid to be used. Keywords
