STUDIES ON THE AMINO ACIDS IN THE BLOOD PLASMA OF SCORBUTIC GUINEA PIGS

Abstract
A comparative study is made on the plasma amino acids in scorbutic and normal guinea pigs. It is observed that there are some striking differences in the assortment of amino acids obtained. Arginine, threonine, hydroxyproline, and cystine are absent in the plasma of scorbutic guinea pigs while they are found to be present in the plasma of normal animals. A few amino acids have been estimated quantitatively. Plasma values of leucine, valine, alanine, glutamic acid, serine, and glycine are lower and the values of phenylalanine, lysine, and histidine are higher in scorbutic animals as compared with the respective values in normal ones.
