Abstract
Between 1976 and 1985 81 cases of endophthalmitis have been treated by pars plana vitrectomy, and intravitreous injection of antibiotics or antimycotics. The functional results and the etiology of the endophthalmitis are discussed, as well as the reasons to perform a vitrectomy in endophthalmitis, and a possible explanation for the relatively high incidence of pseudophakic endophthalmitis is given. Keywords
