Abstract
The molecular arrangement of twelve types of nematic liquid crystals is observed on the surfaces of the supporting plates of soda-, pyrex-, or quartz-glass. These surfaces are treated with various methods. The impurity APAP or EBPAP added to the nematic liquid crystals promotes the molecular alignment perpendicular to the glass plate. A mechanism of the molecular alignment of nematic liquid crystals on the glass surface is discussed in connection with the molecular structures of nematic liquid crystals based on the experimental results. Keywords
