Oxygen Transport in Man

Abstract
OXYGEN transport is a corporate process involving several organs, each with its own regulatory system. Individual diseases of the heart, lungs or blood may impair the functional capacity of a single component; yet oxygen transport is sustained by adjustments in the remainder of the transport system. This review is an attempt to examine the working relations involved in oxygen transport and the clinical implications of hypoxia.Components of Oxygen SupplyEssential components of the oxygen supply system that may be evaluated are pulmonary gas exchange, blood flow, hemoglobin concentration and hemoglobin affinity for oxygen.
