Abstract
It is desirable to obtain an estimate of the functional capability and the performance reserve of the photoreceptive elements in cases of suspected macular disease. Standard testing techniques usually give incomplete information. This study emphasizes photostress testing, where the retina is exposed to a quantitated flash of light and recovery of function is precisely measured. The method of inducing photostress and the result of the study of 49 normal individuals is presented. A gradual deterioration of macular function seems to occur with increasing age. The potential of photostress testing to measure the functional capability of the macular is emphasized. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
