Abstract
The pion-exchange multiperipheral model is used to predict the amount and spectrum of pion production at small c.m. momenta in high-energy collisions. The transverse momentum distribution, which agrees with the present experimental data, is predicted to remain unchanged at all higher energies, but the number of pions produced per unit volume of phase space, which is related to the average multiplicity, is predicted to decrease. Keywords
