Abstract
In 1944, foliage on apple trees sprayed with DDT was bronzed by Tetranychus schoenei and the European red mite. In 1945, various materials intended to suppress mite development were added to some of the DDT sprays. Listed in order of effectiveness in mite control the materials and rate of dilution in 100 gal. were as follows: 20% dinitro-o-cyclohexylphenol 1.25 lb.; 20% amine salt of dinitro-o-cyclohexylphenol 1.25 lb.; xanthone 1 lb.; summer oil emulsion 3 qts. Population density of mites was independent of the amt. of DDT used within the range of 4 oz. to 1 lb. in 100 gallons.
