Carbamate Insecticides: Comparative Insect Toxicity of Sevin, Zectran, and Other New Materials1

Abstract
The comparative insect toxicity of the following commercially available aryl N-methylcarbamates was studied with 15 species of insects and mites: 1-naphthyl-, m-isopropylphenyl-, O-isopropyphenyl-, m-sec-butylphenyl-, m-tert-butyphenyl-, O-isopropoxyphenyl-, 4-dimethylamino-3,5-xylyl-, and 4-methylthio- 3,5-xylyl-, Comparisons were also made with DDT, malathion, and parathion. The results indicated the pronounced insecticidal effectiveness of these compounds as well the highly specific nature of their toxicity to insects representative of a number of orders.
